Hello, my name is Sheila. In 2005, upon retirement  , I moved from the outskirts of Edmonton, Alberta,  to a quaint  secluded hamlet. Completely surrounded by nature, pure silence, tranquility, awe inspired views, endless star filled  skies, I began to awaken. My  true sense of adventure emerged and my  passions revealed themselves effortlessly. Most of which revolve around animals.

My love of Bengal's began totally by surprize,  when a dear and eccentric Uncle surprized me with  a small spotted kitten, a  gorgeous golden glittered Bengal. I named her Duchess . I would soon realize she was a very special kitten indeed.
Thus began my fascination for this delightful breed and through countless hours of research, conversation from around the world, and simply, learning hands on, I made the heartfelt and life changing decision to become a Bengal breeder.

Bengals

The Bengal Cat is a registered domestic breed developed in 1963 by selective breeding to evoke the feline denizens of the jungle such as leopards, ocelots, margays and clouded leopards. The original intent was to study the Asian Leopard Cat's supposed natural immunity to certain feline diseases , in particular, Feline Leukemia, and whether this immunity could be transferred to domestic cats.
Bengal Cats were developed by selective breeding with domestic hybrids   and an Asian
leopard cat (ALC), Prionailurus bengalensis, with the goal of creating a confident, healthy and friendly cat with the high contrast and vividly marked coat of a leopard.

The name "Bengal cat" was derived from the taxonomic name of the Asian leopard cat (P. b. bengalensis). Their appearance is  reminiscent of the ALC, but once separated by at least four generations from the original crossing possess a gentle domestic cat temperament.

The Looks

The Bengal  is  either classed as brown-spotted or snow-spotted. Within brown Bengals, there are either marble or spotted markings. Included in the spotted variation is rosette, which consists of a spot with a dark line surrounding it. Snow Bengal's, (seal lynx point, mink, and sepia) are also either marble or spotted. Seal Lynx Snows are the only Bengal possessing blue eyes . My exquisite King Koa is an extraordinary  pancake rosetted mink snow.

The International Cat Associational provides valuable information on Bengals as well as many other feline breeds .

Temperament

After three generations from the original crossing, the breed usually acquires a gentle domestic cat temperament; however, for the typical pet owner, a Bengal cat kept as a pet should be at least four generations (F4) removed from the leopard cat. The so-called "foundation cats" from the first three filial generations of breeding (F1–F3) are usually reserved for breeding purposes or the specialty pet home environment.
